Our StoryWhy and how was Mothers & Company started? There was a group of friends who were all moms and between them they were also birth doulas, midwives, breastfeeding counselors and childbirth educators (lots of overlap with their hats!). They all taught at a few local hospitals or provided services for families in the Central Mass community and wanted to do more for their clients. Despite trying to get something going at the hospitals where they taught or provided private services to clients, there wasn't a way to create one place where everyone in the region could get the full circle of services that the co-founders of MoCo knew their clients would appreciate. Mothers & Company was "born" in early 2006 but it took until January 2007 for MoCo to get organized and officially begin. January 2007 started childbirth education and prenatal classes in function rooms at Cyprian Keyes Golf Club in Boylston, MA February 2007 started a weekly New Moms Group in function rooms at Cyprian Keyes Golf Club December 2007 were given a nice room within the Golf Club for ourselves and renovated it with our signature green paint, dots and comfortable environment. Started to host meetings and classes in there. January 2008 - September 2009 Grew our classes, support groups and products (started with a couple baby carriers and grew with nursing bras and added cloth diapers and more over time) within our small "studio" within the Golf Club. Slowly added regular hours (still without a street sign) and a few part-time staff to keep it going. October 2009 Moved to a 3000+ square foot space in West Boylston (added plus, the first floor where all our space was also had a warm spa pool that we were able use a few hours a week for parent-child swim classes and a few special swim events!). Had a beautiful and spacious shop with a "living room" area as well as a special "abracadaBRA room" for bra fittings. Also had offices, storage, a small conference room, a consultation room that was used for reiki, breastfeeding consultations and midwifery prenatal visits. We also had two beautiful classrooms which hosted all of our 100+ events per month! January 2012 Many factors forced us to close our doors. We're sad. Our clients are sad. But, the same people who started it, the 50+ staff, instructors, facilitators that MoCo employed are still here and passionate about what we do. Let us know how we can help. Give us a holler. We're here. You + us = MoCo. It lives on in each of us. The MoCo Mommas' Song Here's the story of six lovely ladies, Who were helping many very lovely moms and dads All of them had needs so broad, like so many others They all deserved much more. Here's the story, of six lovely ladies, Who were busy teaching in several hospitals They were trying hard, trying all together Yet they were all alone Till the one day when the ladies got together And they knew that it was much more than a hunch That this group would somehow support many families That's the way we all became the MoCo Moms The MoCo Moms, the MoCo Moms That's the way we became the MoCo Moms.
